members of the Engine Room Staff and three outside people, who had been taken on board by members of the crew while

the ship was in Hong Kong Harbour. The ship, not being a

passenger ship, was not searched by Police before starting

on her voyage.

Descriptions of the pirates and details of

the piracy were sent to the Canton and Macao Police

Authorities, and I understand fran the Consul-General, Canton,

that he has been informed that operations were undertaken by the Cantonese Navy on Kaulan Island as the result of which

forty pirates were killed and five villages burned.
